- Beschreibung
: auf Cover - Rückseite in Englisch !
- Fritz
Wunderlich in this Album follows such other World
famous Opera Singers as Richard Tauber, Joseph Schmidt
and Sandor Konya ( to cite a Trio only ) who also endowed
light
- Classics with
the same opulent Tones common to their Opera Stage
Performances. Singing in English, Italian, French and his
native German, Wunderlich's soaring Tenor in this Album
- makes the
Standard Song over so that each selection Sounds newly
minted. His " Granada " justifies that beat -
up old adjective " sensational " and to Show
that he can do it again,
- Wunderlich
pours a wealth of romantic Emotion into the following
Song " Be My Love ". The much played Evergreen
Tango " Kiss Your Hand, Madame ", likewise
gains new Life, after
- which
Wunderlich Shows what a fresh approach can bring to such
famous Songs, Arias, and Folk Songs as " Plaisir d'
Amour ", Dvorak's " Littte Spring Tune " (
perhaps better known
- as Humoreske
), " Still As the Night ", " Caro Mio Ben
" and Toselli's " Serenade ". Wunderlich,
whose powerful masculine and lyrically warm Voice has
skyrocketed him to an unusual
- Top Position
in Opera Houses throughout Europa, was born on 26.
September 1930 in Kusel ( Pfalz ) Germany. His musical
bent was evident while he was still a Boy. The Family was
- a musical one
: His Father was a Conductor, his Mother a Violinist. In
his Studies Wunderlich was guided by the Director of the
Saarbruecken Conservatory. He graduated with a Per -
- formance of
Tamino in Mozart's " The Magic Flute ", and
this was his first role when, immediately afterwards, he
was appointed to the Stuttgart State Opera in 1955. In
that same Year
- he sang at
the Ansbach Bach Festival, and his first Recording, soon
after that, was in Monteverdi's Opera " Orfeo "
( Archive Records ). During 1956 he was heard in such
disparate
- works as the
Bach Passions and Carl Orff's " Oedipus the Tyrant
". He came to international Attention first at the
1959 Salzburg Festival, where he created a Sensation as
Henry In
- Richard
Strauss' " The Silent Woman ", a Triumph that
was capped by his subsequent appearance as the frustrated
young Lover in Strauss' " Daphne ". Wunderlich
has not yet been
- heard in
Person in the United States, but there is every reason to
believe his American Debut will be made soon. Meantime he
has enlisted a large American Public through his great
- Recordings on
the Deutsche Grammophon Label ( distributed in the U.S.
by MGM Records ), including Mozart's " The Magic
Flute, Strauss' " Daphne ", Berg's "
Wozzeck " , and Bach's
- "
Christmas Oratorio ".
